The formatter changes only whitespace outside strings. Number literals, key order, duplicate keys, and escape sequences are preserved exactly.
Good to know
Will large IDs lose precision?
No. Values such as 9007199254740993 stay exactly as written. Validation is separate from formatting; the output is never rebuilt from JavaScript number values.
Does it accept comments or trailing commas?
No. This tool accepts strict JSON, including primitive values such as strings, numbers, booleans, and null. Comments, single-quoted strings, and trailing commas produce a validation error.
Where is the formatting done?
Entirely in your browser. Your input is not uploaded or saved. The limit is 1 million characters and 200 nesting levels to keep the page responsive.
